Shortly after sunset, the Moon and Regulus \u2014 one of the brightest stars in the night sky \u2014 will appear extremely close together in the western horizon, creating a stunning sight for anyone looking up.<\/p>\n<p>Regulus, often called the \u201cHeart of the Lion,\u201d is the brightest star in the constellation Leo. It shines with a bluish-white glow and is located about 79 light-years away from Earth. Although it may look like a nearby companion to the Moon tonight, the two objects are actually separated by unimaginable distances in space.<\/p>\n<p>The Moon will appear as a slim crescent, softly illuminated against the fading twilight sky.
